The following is a timeline of events in the universe of Generator Rex.^[1] All dates are approximate.

2500s BC

• Van Kleiss arrives from the 21st century after having been sent back in time by Breach. He creates Gharun Set and the Sphinx, and becomes a godlike figure.^[2] Breach herself is also pulled into his time frame due to the control device placed on her chest, though Van Kleiss views her as a spacetime anomaly.^[3]
  • Van Kleiss eventually constructs a nanite preservation chamber, which he uses to keep himself alive until the 2nd century AD. Breach is sent forward in time to his next point of awakening.
  • Gharun Set is trapped inside of the tomb built by Van Kleiss until the 21st century.

190s

• Van Kleiss exits his stasis chamber and is captured by Roman soldiers ruling the province of Aegyptus. Believing Van Kleiss to be an escaped slave, they transport him to Rome to sell him as a gladiator.^[4]
  • Van Kleiss successfully wins a gladitorial match in the Colosseum, gaining the reverence of Emperor Septimius Severus. He demands a quiet place to work in exchange for ensuring the growth and prosperity of Septimius' reign.
  • Breach arrives in Van Kleiss's timeline, but Van Kleiss manages to escape her by repairing and entering his nanite stasis chamber.

793–1066

• Van Kleiss reemerges during the Viking Age in Scandanavia.

1500s

• Van Kleiss reemerges in feudal Japan.
• Van Kleiss reemerges during the Spanish conquest of North America.

20th Century

• Six is born.
• Six comes under the care of One, the most dangerous man on Earth. Together with Dos, Trey, IV, and Five, Six trains to become one of the most dangerous mercenaries in the world.

1984

• Approximate date of birth of Rebecca Holiday.^[5]

1996

• Rex Salazar is born in Geneva, Switzerland to Rafael and Violeta Salazar.
• Noah Nixon is born.

Before 2007

• The Nanite Project begins. The original goal of the project is to develop nanomachines, or nanites, capable of curing disease, alleviating hunger, and growing new cellular tissue. The original science team of the Nanite Project includes:
  • Caesar Salazar, specializing in artificial intelligence
  • Peter Meechum, systems expert
  • Gabriel Rylander, specializing in microengineering
  • Van Kleiss, specializing in bio-mechanical integration
  • Rafael Salazar
  • Violeta Salazar
• The Applied Nanite Research Lab is built in Abysus for the purpose of studying and developing nanites.
• Caesar Salazar develops Zag RS, a decontamination software designed to eliminate nanites that escape from containment.
• The Nanite Project researchers encounter an issue controlling nanites. Two opposing parties are formed, one advocating for a human-machine link, and the other believing the nanites to be capable of self-governance via artificial intelligence.
  • Caesar Salazar, a member of the machine-control group, develops the Alpha nanite to control all other nanites. To maximize its effectiveness, he programs the Alpha to think for itself.
  • Alpha develops its own consciousness and attempts to construct a physical body; when this fails, it attempts to possess living things. As a result, Caesar creates a dimensional disruptor to send the Alpha to a parallel dimension (the Null Void) where he believes it will be rendered harmless. In the Null Void, Alpha eventually interfaces with a mechanical alien lifeform.
  • In response to the Alpha incident, the Omega-1 nanite is developed, intended as a link between humans and the nanites. The Omega-1 is capable of self-replication, making it the only device other than the nanite reactor capable of creating new nanites.
• 2003: Seven-year-old Rex Salazar is injured while playing with laboratory equipment, resulting in a scar on the back of his left knee.
• A wealthy organization known as the Consortium (consisting of Roswell, Reddick, Anthony Haden-Scott, Xanubian, Vostok, and an unnamed seventh member) take an interest in the Nanite Project, hoping to gain immortality. They begin funding the project, and it rapidly shifts focus in their favor.
• A division occurs among the Nanite Project researchers, with a splinter group forming with different ideals about the use of nanites. During a conflict between the groups, Rex Salazar is seriously injured. The scientists inject an infusion of completed nanites into Rex's body to save his life, resulting in him developing EVO abilities.
• The Consortium takes an interest in Rex's powers, wondering about the far-reaching implications of nanite technology and how they might exploit it. They hire a mercenary, Black Knight, to be used as a test subject. She is turned into an EVO with the same abilities as Rex.

2007

• Six and White Knight carry out a mercenary job in the Caspian Sea.
• The Nanite Project researchers develop the Dominion Code, a cipher which enables nanites to alter the structure of the universe itself. A group of five Meta-Nanites is constructed which, when joined together, can control all of reality.
  • The Consortium plans to inject the Meta-Nanites into themselves, which would grant them godlike powers. As a precaution, the Salazar family programs the Meta-Nanites to only work in Rex Salazar's body in their completed form. However, the separate Meta-Nanites still pose an enormous threat, and the Salazars begin planning more drastic measures to prevent the Consortium from gaining their powers.
  • Van Kleiss attempts to obtain the power of the Meta-Nanites by activating the injection cycle for himself. However, he is caught by Rafael and Violeta Salazar.
• The Nanite Event occurs.
  • Rafael, Violeta, and Caesar Salazar destroy the nanite reactor in Abysus, causing a massive explosion which spreads the nanites into Earth's atmosphere, infecting all living things on Earth.
  • Violea and Rafael are locked in the reactor chamber by Van Kleiss, resulting in their deaths.
  • Rex Salazar rescues Caesar with his powers, but the two are separated.
    • Rex's memories are erased by the shock wave of the explosion.
    • Caesar escapes the explosion in his pod laboratory. However, the shock wave interferes with his lab's engines, causing it to move at near-light speeds for fifteen minutes until he is able to reboot the system. The resulting time dilation sends Caesar five years into the future.
  • The country of Abysus becomes heavily infused with nanites.
  • Van Kleiss is destroyed by the explosion, but becomes an EVO with complete control over the nanite-infused landscape of Abysus. However, he requires a constant supply of nanites to survive.
  • Gabriel Rylander goes into hiding in South America, keeping the Omega-1 nanite with him.
• Earth's magnetic field funnels a massive concentration of nanites to the city of Kiev, Ukraine. Nearly every living thing in the city mutates into an EVO.
  • The United Nations, caving to public fears, evacuates the city and places it under an enormous containment field. The city is nicknamed "the Bug Jar."

2008-2009

• Beverly Holiday is transformed into an EVO spider.
• Van Kleiss becomes the ruler of Abysus and amasses a following of EVOs known as the Pack, including Biowulf, Skalamander, and Breach.
• One transforms into an EVO.
• An international organization known as Providence is formed in order to deal with the threat of EVOs. Providence is controlled and funded by the Consortium.
  • Dr. Fell is made the head scientist of Providence. He pursues an ideology that only dissection of EVOs will lead to true understanding of their nature.
  • Agent Six and White Knight, both former mercenaries, join Providence as agents.
  • Dr. Rebecca Holiday joins Providence as a research assistant to Dr. Fell.
• Rex Salazar finds himself in Hong Kong, befriending Tuck, Skwydd, and Cricket. Rex also becomes involved in an EVO crime ring, answering to the criminal leader Quarry. Rex ultimately trades his friends to Quarry in exchange for his freedom, forcing the others to spend the next few years as criminals.
• Zag RS, per her protocols, views the Nanite Event as a massive breach of containment and begins plotting to destroy all nanites.

2010-2011

• Providence captures an EVO chimpanzee, Bobo Haha, in Moscow.
• Dr. Holiday coins the term "Exponentially Variegated Organism," or EVO, for the hence-unnamed nanite mutants.
• The town of Greenville, Ohio disappears. In reality, the town is pulled into a pocket dimension by Breach.
• Rex Salazar transforms into his full EVO form in Mexico. Providence agents, including Agent Six and White Knight, are sent to intervene.^[6]
  • Rex's EVO form explodes, and his memories are erased a second time. After Six discovers his ability to cure EVOs, he brings him to Providence to see Dr. Holiday.
  • Discovering Rex's existence, White Knight and Dr. Fell attempt to dissect him using a chamber that strips nanites from a host body. Six intervenes, and in the ensuing conflict, White Knight has all nanites removed from his body, but survives.
  • White Knight becomes the new leader of Providence, as he is the only individual on Earth who is incapable of becoming an EVO. However, he is unable to survive outside of a sealed nanite-free chamber.
  • Dr. Fell is removed from his position due to his actions, and Dr. Holiday replaces him as the head researcher of Providence.
• Rex begins using his powers to fight and cure EVOs for Providence.
• Six gives Rex a pair of goggles which become an iconic part of his wardrobe.
• Paradise Base is built in Antarctica to siphon Rex's surplus nanites out of his body. Unbeknownst to Providence, the base's supervisor, Weaver, secretly begins selling these excess nanites to Van Kleiss.

2012

• Hunter Cain's wife turns into an EVO, prompting Cain to develop a hatred for EVOs.
• White Knight hires Noah Nixon to play the role of Rex Salazar's friend and act as a spy.
• Van Kleiss captures Rex Salazar, along with Noah Nixon and Bobo Haha, and brings them to Abysus. The trio escape with the aid of Agent Six.
• Dr. Peter Meechum is transformed into an EVO with the ability to control the motor functions of living things. Van Kleiss kidnaps Sarah Meechum, using her as leverage against Peter, and demands that he use his powers to take over Manhattan. Peter does so, turning the population of the city into "zombies."
  • Providence quarantines Manhattan, and White Knight orders that Bleach Protocol be initiated to annihilate the city. However, Rex Salazar and Noah Nixon learn about Sarah, and Rex is able to convince Meechum to stand down.
  • Rex rescues Sarah Meechum from the Pack. She and Peter are placed under Providence's protection.
• Circe is recruited into the Pack by Van Kleiss. As a ritual of initiation, he sends her to defeat an EVO in Cabo Luna.
  • Rex meets and develops a crush on Circe while "vacationing" in Cabo Luna, and later helps her defeat the EVO. However, Circe refuses his offer to go to Providence, and instead leaves with the Pack.
• Beverly Holiday breaches containment, and Providence is placed under lockdown. Rex is able to defeat and contain her, learning in the process that Noah was hired by White Knight.
• Rex meets a community of engineers who are secretly being manipulated by Zag RS to build a device to destroy all nanites - and thus all life - on Earth. Rex and the engineers defeat Zag RS, and prevent her program from going live.
• While offloading his surplus nanites at Paradise Base, Rex learns of Weaver's involvement with the Pack. Weaver is turned into an EVO after releasing the nanites stored in the chamber, but is defeated by Rex and Six. Weaver is relocated to Providence Basic Training, while Rex begins offloading his excess nanites at Purgatory Base in the South Pacific.
• Van Kleiss and the Pack attempt to take over the world by holding the delegates of the United Nations hostage in New York City. However, Rex defeats the Pack and forces them to flee.
• Rex is captured by Breach and brought to her pocket dimension, but escapes.
• Dr. Gabriel Rylander begins sending "calling cards" to members of the Consortium, devices which temporarily turn them into EVOs as punishment for abandoning the Nanite Project.
  • Van Kleiss drains the nanites from the Jungle Cat EVO, his newest Pack recruit, after Jungle Cat accidentally severs Van Kleiss's nanite supply pack.
  • Providence tracks Rylander to a laboratory in the Amazon rainforest, where Rex confronts him about his past. Van Kleiss also seeks Rylander, hoping to acquire the Omega-1 nanite from him.
  • Rylander injects the Omega-1 nanite into Rex.
  • Van Kleiss stabs Rylander, but Rylander pushes him into his nanite reactor, vaporizing them both.
• A Providence team carrying a valuable data rod is captured in the Bug Jar by its leader, NoFace. Rex arrives in the Bug Jar and helps the team escape, delivering the data rod to White Knight.
• Rex and Noah befriend Claire Bowman and her friend Annie.
• While on a mission in Hong Kong, Rex encounters his old friends Tuck, Cricket, and Skwydd again, the trio still forced to act as criminals for Quarry. They learn the truth that Rex sold them out to Quarry, but Rex rejects his past, and helps free his friends from Quarry's control.
• Hunter Cain, a human vigilante, antagonizes Rex and amasses a private militia in opposition to Providence's methods of dealing with EVOs. However, after Cain is exposed for cloning EVOs as a "demonstration" of the futility of Providence, he is arrested.
• Zag RS attacks a Providence research team on a space station in hopes of gaining control over a program capable of destroying nanites. However, several of the Providence scientists (including Dr. Holiday) are rescued by Rex, and Zag RS and the space station crash down to Earth in reentry.
• Abysus begins to destabilize without Van Kleiss there to control it. Circe, in an act of desperation, calls for Rex's help.
  • Rex learns that Circe brought him to Abysus in order to resurrect Van Kleiss. Rex initially refuses, but when the nanites in Abysus begin to drown his friends, he reluctantly brings Van Kleiss back to life.
  • Van Kleiss's nanites are altered, which enables Rex to cure him. The Pack flees.
• A swarm of EVOs nearly destroys the city of Beijing, but is averted by Providence.
• An EVO virus causes all humans in North America to fall asleep. Rex and White Knight, the only members of Providence immune to the plague, are able to locate the source and cure it.
• Rex celebrates his sixteenth birthday.^[7]
• A group of anarchists led by Gatlocke attempts to steal unstable nanites from Providence, but they are defeated by Rex.
• Van Kleiss launches a massive, coordinated attack on all major Providence facilities on Earth.
  • Van Kleiss and the Pack personally assault the Keep.
  • Van Kleiss uses the nanites Rex left behind in his body to steal Rex's own nanites, rendering Rex powerless and giving Van Kleiss the ability to create EVOs.
  • The Pack rams the Keep into the Providence HQ, invading it.
  • Rex is able to use the Omega-1 nanite to reactivate his powers by funneling nanites from Purgatory Base into his body. He gains the ability to create new machines.
  • With his restored powers, Rex helps Providence defeat Van Kleiss and the Pack, forcing them to flee. However, the Providence HQ is left severely damaged by the attack.

2013

• Van Kleiss and the Pack attempt to steal the replacement power core for the Providence HQ, which is under reconstruction. Van Kleiss turns Noah Nixon into an EVO as a diversion, but Rex Salazar successfully cures Noah. The Pack escapes with the fuel core.
• Rex and Six investigate the disappearance of a research ship in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, discovering an underwater EVO metropolis called Aquania, led by Serge. They choose to keep the existence of Aquania a secret from Providence.
• Rex, Bobo, and Kenwyn Jones investigate an EVO-centric party in the Sonoran Desert, uncovering a terrorist plot against human-EVO coexistence.
• Van Kleiss and the Pack travel to the Bug Jar, intending to negotiate an alliance with NoFace. Rex interferes and prevents the alliance.
  • Rex convinces Circe to leave the Pack and go live with his friends in Hong Kong.
• Bobo Haha is revealed to have used a robotic double, Robo Bobo, to allow himself time away from Providence. Chaos ensues when Robo Bobo goes out of control due to Rex's interference.
• Six and his former mercenary allies (Dos, Trey, IV, and Five) kidnap Rex and bring him to an island to cure One, their mentor, who has turned into an EVO. One proves to be incurable, but communicates to Six one last time through Rex before peacefully passing away.
• Caesar Salazar returns to the present day and reunites with Rex. He becomes a scientist working for Providence.
• Rex is sent on a mission to South America to investigate a pro-EVO terrorist organiation, the Green Fist. He encounters the chupacabra, a non-EVO cryptid.
• Rex and Noah, with the aid of Caesar, set up a "haunted house" to scare Annie and Claire. The night goes awry when they encounter an invisible cat EVO, but Rex is able to cure it.
• Rex temporarily moonlights with the EVO Guys, a private EVO-capturing service in New York City consisting of former Providence agents Rombauer and Lansky.
• Rex and Noah participate in a high school table tennis tournament against EVO twins Gabriel and Michael. During this time, Rex attends high school.
• Zag RS creates a nanite-free zone in the desert in an attempt to break down all organic matter on Earth. Rex and Van Kleiss form a temporary truce to destroy her.
  • Van Kleiss tells Rex that Caesar caused the Nanite Event.
  • Zag RS is captured and reprogrammed, revealed to have been created by Caesar.
• Caesar takes Rex to visit Abuela, their honorary grandmother, in a Mexican village. They discover that boys in the village turn into werewolf-like EVOs at night. Rex defends the village from an attack by Hunter Cain and cures the boys.
• Van Kleiss sends Breach to Hong Kong to free Quarry from prison. Rex pursues Breach, thinking she is after Circe. Breach kidnaps Circe and brings her to her pocket dimension, but Rex defeats Quarry, and convinces Breach to release Circe.
• Beverly Holiday is cured.
• The crew of the television news show Ultimate Exposure is given an exclusive tour of the Providence HQ. Despite an EVO breakout occurring, their coverage focuses exclusively on gossip related to Agent Six.
• While the entirety of Providence leaves the HQ for field exercises, Rex and Noah throw a secret party attended by a group of skaters. Jungle Cat invades the HQ, but Rex convinces him to join Providence as an agent working against Van Kleiss.
• Caesar attempts to use a device to restore Rex's lost memories, but it malfunctions, causing Six to lose all memories of the past six years of his life.
• Van Kleiss creates a device that allows Breach to open portals through time, also granting him additional control over her. Rex convinces Breach to change sides; Breach sends Van Kleiss three thousand years back in time, but the device malfunctions, sending Breach after Van Kleiss and teleporting Rex six months into the future.

Interim

• The Consortium loses faith in White Knight's leadership, and plots to replace him with Black Knight. White Knight rebels against providence, forming a splinter organization including Agent Six and Dr. Holiday, whose goal is to oppose the Consortium and find the missing Rex.
• Black Knight becomes the leader of Providence.
• Without Rex to cure EVOs, Providence moves past their original "cure, contain, or kill" policy. Caesar Salazar, now Providence's head scientist, develops collars that can control the behavior of EVOs, in an attempt to have them coexist with mankind.
• EVOs such as Tuck, Cricket, Skwydd, and Circe become fugitives from Providence.

Six Months Later

• Rex Salazar returns to the present and is recaptured by Providence, meeting Black Knight. Horrified by Providence's new methods and Caesar Salazar's actions, Rex refuses to rejoin them. He is kidnapped by Agent Six and Dr. Holiday and joins White Knight's splinter faction.
• Rex investigates the use of performance-enhancing nanites by biker gangs, tracking down and defeating their supplier, a man named Valve.
• The Alpha nanite, possessing a bio-mechanical alien, returns from the Null Void through a portal opened over Manhattan. Ben Tennyson, a superpowered human from a parallel dimension, is pulled into Rex's dimension. Rex and Ben work together to defeat and contain Alpha, and Ben brings the contained Alpha back into the Null Void.
• Noah Nixon gets a job at a TV studio, where Rex investigates attacks by an EVO mongoose.
• Dr. Holiday and Providence both discover hieroglyphs in Giza depicting what appear to be nanites. They accidentally reawaken Gharun Set, a powerful and ancient EVO, who attempts to reconquer Egypt but dies due to old age. Black Knight later discovers that Gharun Set was created by Van Kleiss.
• Rex loses his goggles and goes to great lengths to recover them.
• Rex and Noah battle in an escalating prank war.
• Learning that Providence intends to restart the Nanite Project, White Knight orchestrates an infiltration of the Providence HQ. During the infiltration, Rex learns that Caesar caused the Nanite Event, and White Knight recovers one of the Meta-Nanites.
  • A race begins between Providence and White Knight's faction to recover all of the Meta-Nanites, with Providence intending to use them to empower the Consortium as gods.
• Rex and Noah encounter Fitzy Feakins, a human EVO who has the power to neutralize nanites in his vicinity. They help Fitzy evade Providence and give him a cover job.
• Rex's Hong Kong friends, with the exception of Circe, are captured by Providence. Circle flees and reunites with Rex. White Knight convinces Circe to lead a mission to Abysus to recover a Meta-Nanite located in Van Kleiss's castle.
  • Rex and Circe secure the allegiance of Biowulf, who has taken leadership in Van Kleiss's absence.
  • Providence begins a massive assault on Abysus. The Pack is able to repel their ground forces, but Providence airships lift the entire castle from its foundations. Rex escapes with the Meta-Nanite, but Circe is captured by Providence.
  • Abysus becomes the staging ground for the new Nanite Project. A laboratory is built upon the former site of the castle.
• In Hong Kong, Rex learns that his friends are under once again under the control of Quarry using Caesar's EVO restraint collars. Rex frees his friends and destroys Quarry, whose remains are recovered by Providence.
• A Providence team lead by Caesar races against Rex and his allies to find the present-day location of Van Kleiss, eventually locating him in Paris. Breach appears, but Rex contains and frees her from the harness that bound her to Van Kleiss. Van Kleiss is taken into Providence custody and conscripted into the Nanite Project.
• John Scarecrow, a shape-shifting EVO and former adversary of Rex in Hong Kong, is sent to infiltrate the Providence defectors. While defeated, Scarecrow succeeds in demoralizing the team.
• Rex, Noah, Claire, and Annie travel to the Salazar family rancho in Argentina.
• The Consortium visit the labs at Abysus for an update on the progress of the Meta-Nanite hunt. With the aid of Jungle Cat, Rex and his allies infiltrate the lab with the goal of eliminating the Consortium. Their mission is unsuccessful.
  • At some point before this, Caesar begins working to resurrect Gabriel Rylander.
  • Black Knight murders Vostok, one of the Consortium members, intending to take his place.
• Hunter Cain, NoFace, Valve, and Gatlocke form an alliance to take down Rex, but Rex defeats them.
• Rex protects a punk rock band, the Trendbenders, from an obsessive EVO fan.
• Black Knight's forces assault the Providence defectors' base and capture the remaining two Meta-Nanites as well as Rex, who is taken to Abysus.
  • Black Knight reveals herself as an EVO.
  • Rex is revealed to have a Meta-Nanite inside of him. Because of this, Rex is forced to undergo the procedure to implant the Meta-Nanites into the Consortium and Black Knight. Following the procedure, the Consortium become EVOs with godlike abilities.
  • White Knight retakes control of Providence, successfully extracting Rex from Abysus.
• The Consortium use their powers to sow chaos around the world, pursuing personal vendettas and greed. However, unsatisfied with the limitations of their powers, they return to Abysus demanding a redo of the procedure. Rex and Providence stage an attack to prevent this.
  • Rex transforms into his full EVO form, but is unsuccessful in defeating the Consortium.
  • During the procedure, Van Kleiss intervenes and attempts to steal the Meta-Nanites' power for himself. The procedure fails, as the full power of the Meta-Nanites is programmed only to obey Rex.
• Rex absorbs the Meta-Nanite, using its omnipotent power to cure nearly every EVO on Earth. He then shuts down the Meta-Nanite permanently.
  • Breach takes Van Kleiss and the Pack to an unknown location prior to the worldwide cure event. Black Knight and the Consortium escape, and possibly retain some of their abilities.
  • Providence continues to operate to deal with global threats, with Rex remaining one of their agents.
